Absurdity
PAS | PERFORMANCE ART STUDIES #91 – ‘ABSURDITY’
A public performance art presentation concluding a 7-day research program focused on exploring absurdity as an artistic tool through a practical dialogue with performance art. In a variety of experimental settings, international artists dove into the ocean of the absurd, investigating its structure, essence, and creative potential. They developed performance art pieces that challenged logic, broadened perspectives, and engaged the body, oftentimes in unexpected ways.
It often seems that artists are comfortable navigating states of absurdity. Experiences of being unreasonable, senseless, or even irrational are familiar territories for them, often embraced rather than avoided. For others, however, absurdity can primarily evoke discomfort, embarrassment, or a sense of unease.
Allowing absurd moments and situations to unfold is not always easy, as they disrupt norms and challenge our personal visions of reality. These experiences can lead to a clash of viewpoints and perceptions. Absurdity is frequently associated with paradoxes that stretch reality to the edge of coherence, creating a form of “non-sense” that tests the boundaries of acceptability.
Let’s meet at the heart of absurdity and discover its rhythm together.
